Uli enjoys a sip of a glass of very special, very cold Champagne (the region
of Champagne is a northerly one, so Josef likes to keep the bottles rather cold)
as Josef pours.
Gaby and Norbert.
Uli is a knife expert, as you may know, and she prefers to use an electric knife
to slice a home-made terrine she has prepared.
And salad is served...a lovely first course.
Josef selected a nice Ayler Kupp as an accompaniment.
The wine was light, crisp and delightfully refreshing alongside the salad.
As Uli worked to prepare the next course, Josef was busy decanting the next
Meanwhile, Anette Bonifer enjoyed a glass of wine while her daughter, Elena, was
home studying English.
Uli takes a break as everything is under control on the stove or in the oven.
How about some green beans wrapped with bacon and baked in the oven?
(I believe the beans have been par-boiled before going into the oven.)
We drank several good wines, including a nice Syrah from the Chateau de Negly.
Josef has also discovered Madiran, another excellent red from France's Southwest
Uli, meanwhile, was slicing the lamb which had been prepared in the terra-cotta
pot in the oven. I think she has a portable knife for this.
A big pan of Sptzle was served with the meat, a lovely pairing.
Norbert asks Josef as to the appellation of the water.
Apparently it's something local and well-priced.
As Uli explains to Anette how she sharpens her knives, Josef shows off a bottle
of a Woodward Canyon Cabernet from Washington State.
As his daughter is home studying her English, Claus Bonifer enjoys a schniff of
another good wine.
Norbert, meanwhile, tells Gaby he's just been thinking of running for the office
of mayor of Rodgau.
Josef has a similar reaction:
More wine, bitte.
Uli got busy preparing dessert.
Berries and cream.
Then, some chocolate cake.
When Norbert and Josef started singing famous German songs, we knew we were late
into the evening.
And so we concluded another excellent evening of fine dining!
Many thanks to Uli & Josef!
