We were delighted to host another wine marketing seminar
for the CCIV, a wine course taught in Beaune, France.

Alexia Moore, President of Alexia Moore Wine Marketing and Oliver McCrum,
Padrone at Oliver McCrum Wines, both spoke about the being a broker and being a
distributor and importer of wine.

Alexia explained how wineries work to market their products and various
point-of-sale (P-O-S) materials.

Oliver spoke about importing wines and how tricky it can be to bring in wines
which are not of a style widely-appreciated by those journalists who look for
"internationally-styled" bottlings.
Afterwards, we tasted some wines from both Alexia's and Oliver's
portfolios. Everyone was impressed with the New Zealand Sauvignon from
Lake Chalice winery and the Storrs 2002 Chardonnay. Oliver had a wonderful
Barbera from Ettore Germano and a delightful 1998 Brunello di Montalcino of La
Gerla.

I opened a 2000 vintage of Turley "Old Vines" Zinfandel, along with a Qup
1994 Syrah "Reserve" and a 1984 Dunn "Howell Mountain"
Cabernet Sauvignon.
From there we adjourned to Aji Yoshi Ya at 1190 Broadway for some sushi and
other lunch festivities.
