Despite the cold, winter weather, we had a few lovely
hours of sunshine and plenty of good food and wine on a lazy Sunday in March.
When we arrived, we found Jesper and Sandy working on some homemade gnocchi.
Dane wanted to help...
Here's the Menu du Jour:
A leg of lamb was ready for the wood-fired oven.
Brian was our sommelier for the event...
Sandy and Paul had been busy preparing these Duck & Orange
We began with a couple of wines from Italy's Val d'Aosta.
Meanwhile, Alanna and Chelsea were enjoying the afternoon's
Jesper had soaked some salt cod and prepared a tray of polenta
topped with the bacalao.
Accompanying the cod is a stack of zucchini.
Meanwhile, the Birthday Girl, Toni, is having a word with
This new white wine from Spain's Torres winery was quite good with the fish...
After this course, Sandy and Jesper got busy with the Gnocchi preparations...
A wild boar sauce with the gnocchi...and an interesting Spanish red blend of
Syrah and Monastrell.
Paul and Jesper were discussing yeasts and breads.
We then went outside to check on the lamb in the wood oven...while Alanna and
Clementine were snooping around...
The kids were looking around in case Uncle Gerald brought some
Chelsea was the host of "Fact or Crap!"
The kids got these cute little puzzles...
Jesper, meanwhile, had a new hair style...
He's hoping to meet up with a circus.
Oh my...it seems to run in the family!
Chelsea and Toni seem to have 'caught' whatever bug is going around.
Meanwhile, back in the kitchen...
Taters and Lamb and More Taters.
Felix and Pierre wasted no time in diving in!
The Domaine Laffont Madiran was superb!
Clementine was busy trying to solve the puzzle's mystery.
The cake was then presented with birthday greetings...
Too bad Angela was in Toscana, for we were celebrating very nicely here in

We then stepped outside for a bit of fresh air, taking in a
rather full moon...
And with that...we adjourned the festivities until next year!
