Alexia and Henry joined in the festivities...
...and immediately got busy.
Adam brought a nice line-up of Ojai wines.
Lucy takes care of serving up some fresh fava beans.
("Ciao, Angela!" said Lucy.)
Jonathan roasted some potatoes in the wood-fired oven, along with
Alexia and Henry brought a couple of bottles of 1970
1970 Chteau Lynch Bages
and 1970 Chteau Brane-Cantenac.
Both wines were, happily, still quite alive.
The Lynch-Bages was the deeper, more full-bodied wine, but the Brane-Cantenac
had come a long way! It displayed the classic high-toned, somewhat floral
notes typical of wines from Margaux.
Somehow the conversation turned to chatter about roosters and
Alexia held up a photo of one of her favorite cocks.
We opened an old, tired bottle of the 1970 Romane-Saint-Vivant,
It was nice to taste, but certainly past its prime.
A bottle of 1992 Pinot Meunier from The Eyrie Vineyard was, surprisingly, rather
Still yapping about roosters and chickens, Jonathan brought
out some eggs of recent "vintage."
For dessert we opened an old bottle of a good Auslese Riesling
given to me by Gaby and Norbert many years ago...a 1986 Heyl zu Herrnsheim
This was a bit old, but still okay...
