BOB'S BOEUF BOURGUIGNON
Following a blind-tasting of 1999 Cabernets (can you spell
"over-priced"?), we ventured to Bob's for dinner.
"This is not very photogenic...yet!" said Chef Gorman.
Henry opened the new 1998 "Mis en Cave" Charles Heidsieck. This
was really crisp and appley, a shade less toasty than previous versions.
Quite good, though.
Bob made a really delicious version of Bagna Calda, though it was not
heated. This was superb with the assorted crudits.
I brought some salad greens from Burlingame's "Fresh Market" and these
were terrific as a starter.
We had two 2002 white wines from Feudi di San Gregorio. I preferred the
Fiano di Avellino over the Greco di Tufo.
Marjorie enjoyed the salad and white wines.
Now we're much more "photogenic"!!!
Our bottle of Groffier Bonnes Mares 2000 was corked, but we had a nice
Nuits-St.-Georges from Emmanuel Rouget and then a "mystery red."
Claudia identified the wine as a Mediterranean red of some sort, most likely
It was a Sang de Cailloux 1999 Vacqueyras (she knows the winemaker and was
stunned, to say the least, to have this bottle sprung on her as a surprise)!!!
A Castelnau de Suduiraut 1999 Sauternes was lovely paired with the Draeger's
