The week had already been busy when we received a message saying the importer wished to bring by the owner of Tuscany's Castell'in Villa winery.

It had been 22 years since I'd seen the Principessa, a woman who's been at the helm of the Castell'in Villa estate since 1971.  We used to buy her wines back in the late 1970s and early 1980s and remember our visit to the property.

Coralia Pignatelli della Leonessa's husband had been the Italian ambassador to Nigeria many years ago.

Today her estate features not only the vineyards and winery, but also an agriturismo facility and restaurant.

We began with a bottle of Domaine Carneros Brut sparkler and a table full of nibbles...



The Principessa and King of the Kitchen, Bob Gorman.

But then there was work to be done and Bob got to it.

Bob blanched the Swiss Chard so it would be ready to saut in olive oil...



THE PROGRAM:


We then opened a couple of 2003 California Sauvignon Blanc wines...a Dylan from Napa and Ojai from Santa Barbara.  Bob prepared a seafood salad with fresh herbs.


Coralia was curious about these wines...



Delicious!

Meanwhile, the pork was roasting...


Ecco!


Bob then got busy and sliced the roast...


The two Zinfandels offered quite a contrast...
D-Cubed, from Napa, showed a lot of spice and oak, while the Runquist, from Amador, was a lighter, softer, smoother red.




Dessert featured a homemade Meyer Lemon Sorbet with fresh strawberries....

The Long Vineyard Riesling from Napa was superb with this!




The Principessa thanked Bob and reminded him to please come visit the estate in Toscana....
