A DAY ON THE COAST WITH THE WOOGE'S
May 23, 2004

We spent a leisurely sunny Sunday well west of Highway 101.

After a nice drive through the wilds of Santa Cruz County, we arrived at the tasting room of Randall Grahm's famous Bonny Doon Vineyard.

Matthias is impressed that they seem to have more clothing than wine!

Gunhild & Ike both enjoyed some of the sweet wines.

Matthias has become a real "Turbo Meister."
Ike appears hypnotized by this.

We then drove up the coast, stopping along the way to look at some surfers and guys with model airplanes.

There was some kind of official competition going on.
The contestants were really into this sport.

Here's one of their planes out on a run.

Both Gunhild and Ike thought the wind was blowing down to California from Alaska.

Meanwhile, the pilots continued their airplane race.

You might think they're all smiling, but actually their teeth are chattering in the cold wind.

We then stopped by the Pigeon Point Lighthouse.

Back in the Van Blanc and up the road to San Gregorio's huge metropolis.

Inside Gunhild had a cup of Java and was surprised to find this sign for sale...

Meanwhile, Matthias thought about buying a t-shirt.

The Wooge's then found the hat department.

Amazingly, they each selected the perfect chapeau!

The band started to play and the Wooge's started to dance.

Cowboy Matt and the Woogettes.

Betty and The Barney's played some great tunes.

Betty has some great moves.

This guy sang a Van Morrison tune.

Matthias was thrilled to pose for a photo standing next to Emmy Lou Harris.

After driving towards the sun and up the coast, we stopped for a quick bit of shopping.

Ike, especially, was in hoch himmel.

Then to Cetrella for dinner in Half Moon Bay.

Gunhild was especially impressed by the wine list.

We began with a bottle of 2003 Le Printemps Rose from California.

Ike, meanwhile, had a glass of Moscato.

The Fritto Misto features local artichokes and is sensational.

A squeeze of lemon...

Gunhild claims not to be a wine drinker...

...but we know better.

Ike ordered the braised shortribs.

Gunhild has the house-made spaghetti with seafood.

...and ros!

I brought a 1991 Dunn Napa Valley Cabernet.
This was sehr gut!

Damned good.

The balance was delightful...

Followed by dessert.

Vanilla gelato and hot espresso!
