STEVE & THALIA HOST AN INFORMAL BIRTHDAY
Thalia Lubin said she and Alexia were planning some
sort of dinner as an excuse to celebrate my birthday.
Henry opened a delicious bottle of Charles Heidsieck's Champagne as Alexia took
care of dinner preparations.
Hot puff pastry nibbles with mushrooms or spinach.
Alexia is, after all, the Salad Queen.
Steve Lubin, does, indeed, appear to be hungry.
Henry took care of helping build the salads.
Alexia poured two 2001 Sauvignons with the salad. The Tement from Austria
was its usual delicious, crisp, expressive self.
A Catacula Lake Winery 2001 Sauvignon offered a ton of oak and some coconut-like
The main plate was a lamb stewed served atop some pasta.
The Lubins brought a 1955 Armand Roux Pomerol, which was remarkably good and
smoky. This was a most pleasant surprise. The Armand Roux label was
an old-time brand, well-known in the San Francisco market in the 1960s and
Alexia and Henry brought out a 1976 Ridge Monte Bello Cabernet and this was
outstanding. It was very fine, elegant and paired perfectly with the lamb.
Thalia brought some sort of Nectarine Turnovers for dessert...delicious paired
with Bonny Doon's sweet Viognier!
Many thanks to Steve and Thalia for a lovely evening!
