PAUL & HENRY
THE BIRTHDAY BOYS' CELEBRATE #65
January 2006

Hosted by Marjorie Noble-Martin, we celebrated the Birthday Boys' annual bash on a drizzly Sunday in January.

Alexia prepared dinner and took care of the cellar work.

We began with a bottle of Jose Dhondt Blanc de Blancs Champagne...

Marjorie liked both bubblies...the second bottle was a Charles Heidsieck.

The menu said "Paul and Henry" Celebrate Retirement (age)"
Here are Henry and Paul.

Demonstrating we must be close to a full moon, Alexia was preparing some bacon.
Yes!
"Alexia Moore" and "bacon" together in the same sentence.  Voluntarily.
Apparently the book I gave her last year, "Everything Tastes better with Bacon" may have inspired this moment of insanity.

Spinach Salad with Chanterelles and Bacon.

Two Pinot Noir Ross wines...Lawson's from New Zealand and Stephen Ross from California.

Birthday Boy Paul Obester.

Birthday Boy Henry! Moore.

Two 1978 Bordeaux with Alexia's Lamb Stew and Toasted Buckwheat Polenta.

The Domaine de Chevalier was especially good...Just right at its peak, with nice leather and cedary tones.  The Grand Puy Lacoste had a somewhat metallic quality and was also good.

Alexia pulled out a couple of Burgundies from the 1986 vintage to go with the cheeses.

The Chef de Cuisine and Chef de Cave gets in between some Burgundy.

Sandy.

Marjorie enjoys the cheeses.

The Comte de Voge 1986 Bonnes Mares was superb.  Elegant and refined and still youthful.  Jadot's Chapelle Chambertin from the same vintage was also good, but a bit over-shadowed by the Bonnes Mares.

Dessert featured a decadent chocolate cake and a lovely, smooth 1975 Warre's Vintage Port.

Then it was time to open some birthday gifts.

Henry was thrilled with the Gin and Schnapps set presented by Marjorie.

Paul's "Orange You Glad It's My Birthday" gift box.

This was stuffed with all sorts of Orange Marmalade.

Henry had his own box to work on...
"Nobody Knows The Truffle I've Seen."

A black truffle!

Cliff and Alexia scope out the truffle.

Not to mention cornichons, chocolate truffles with Cognac and Chocolate Truffles with Champagne!

As it was getting late and past everyone's bed time...Paul blew out the candles and said "Say good night Sandy."
So...Sandy said "Say good night Sandy."

Or was that Jamie, Marjorie's parrot?

Anyway, we had a blast!
