Hosted by
Robert Gorman
Attended by Henry! Moore, Paul & Sandy Obester and Gerald Weisl

Bob Gorman hosted this year's Alexia Moore Birthday Bash and we had a wonderful backyard barbecue in San Bruno, California.

Bob collected some special wines to torment the guests and the birthday girl.

He had prepared some nice items for the grill...

We then opened the Laurent Perrier Grande Sicle Champagne...this is a splendid bottle of bubbly.  The wine is a blend of several vintages and it's wonderfully dry and crisp.  What a refreshing departure from the normal bottles of bubbly and table wines which often are low in acidity or a bit sweet!

The birthday girl "probes" the Champagne.

Paul and Sandy have a go at the "nibbles" table.

Soon it was time to sit down and open some bottles...

We had two superb Sauvignon Blanc wines to pair with the Obester's outstanding Ceviche.

Didier Daguenau's 2003 Pouilly-Fum was rich, balanced and had a nice touch of wood.  Even more spectacular was the Clos Henri Sauvignon Blanc from the 2004 vintage in New Zealand.  This was tangy, minerally and crisp...a perfect wine for ceviche.

We had a toast to Alexia and her 39th Birthday.
Again.

Bob, meanwhile, had to tend to the grilling business.

Sure, the vittles look good...but we didn't forget the wine.  Alexia pulled a couple of 1976 vintage reds from the cellar.
The Chteau Leoville Las Cases was good, but I felt the Ridge 1976 Monte Bello Cabernet/Merlot blend was the more intense and profound wine.

Bob then brought out an assortment of cheeses to pair with the Domaine Gros Frres wines...

The Vosne-Romane was a 1964 vintage, while the Clos Vougeot was from the 1993 harvest.
The 1964 was a wonderful wine...it was more complete and still alive, though old.  The Clos Vougeot was a good wine, but less intensity to the Pinot Noir.

Paul and Sandy soon broke out into a chorus of song, singing "Happy Birthday..."

Bob nearly forgot the Meyer Lemon Ice...Delicious!

This was followed by a berry pie from Gorman Garden fruit...and we had a lovely old Barsac from Chteau Coutet, a 1950 vintage!

The wine was marvelously honeyed and still rather spry.

It was then time for a few birthday gifts and some laughter...

Alexia appears perplexed by the "Jesus Action Figure" gift.

Sandy and Paul liked the idea of "it turning water into wine."

Sandy and Paul found a nice little jacket for Alexia...this is less miraculous a gift than Bob's "action" figure.

Meanwhile, Bob had plenty of clean-up chores in the kitchen.

And soon it was getting late...so we all made tracks.

Thanks to Bob for such a splendid wing ding.
