HENRY! & PAUL'S 60th BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION
6th Anniversary

Hosted by Chef Robert Gorman
January 2007

The Menu.

The guests arrived at the appointed hour and Bob was ready for another one of his culinary triumphs.

I poked around in the kitchen and found the Cassoulet "fixins"...

Duck confit...sausages...

Meanwhile, Alanna FitzJensen was busy playing solitaire...

Bob, then, got busy in the kitchen, assembling the Cassoulet.

It was time to open the Champagne, a magnum of Agrapart's excellent Blanc de Blancs.

Henry! and Paul.

In the middle of the proceedings, Bob received an important call...

But he told Paul Bocuse he was having no trouble with the Cassoulet and the foie gras was coming along nicely, too, so "merci beaucoup."

Foie Gras

Guigal's 2004 Condrieu "La Doriane" was spectacular and the Qupé 2005 Viognier was very fine.

Henry!

Amy enjoyed a bit of salmon and the Viogniers...which sent her to a state of dreamland, apparently.

Bob then opened a bunch of bottles of red wine to pair with the Cassoulet.

Dane then came around to inspect things.

Many nice wines...a Gemello Petit Sirah...Project 3000 Lake County Syrah...Chateau Coustarelle's L'Eclat bottling of Cahors...

Lucy.

Bob explains the fine points of preparing Cassoulet.

Amy is a big fan of Cassoulet.

Bob then presented an array of cheeses...

Bob then decanted a bottle of Zinfandel which was made by his old mentor and confidant, Norman Mini.

This was still showing well!

Jesper.

Some sort of interpretative dance by Alanna FitzJensen.

Dane was interested to have a sniff of a wine he heard was older than himself.

But then, most wines are older than Dane.

Paul was amused when he noticed a Spanish red called "Tritium."

"You know," Paul explained, "Tritium is a rare radioactive hydrogen isotope with atomic mass 3 and half-life 12.5 years, prepared artificially for use as a tracer and as a constituent of hydrogen bombs."

Alexia.

Jonathan.

Dane, who almost always gets a "pwesent" when he sees his Uncle Gerald, pwesented Uncle Gerald with a little "thank you."

Meanwhile, the Birthday Boys needed to get seriously busy.

Dane was amused by this new toy for Henry.

Jesper baked a nice little Birthday Cake...

Paul shows Bob the size of the slice of cake he'd like...

Henry shows off his new "Frog's Leaping" Shirt.

Paul, meanwhile, who's Tiger's Daddy...shows off his new shirt.

Alanna dove into the cake...

Dane seemed to enjoy Dad's baking artistry, too.

Henry had a schluck of schnapps and we all adjourned the festivities...

Thanks to Bob, Sandy and Jesper for preparing such culinary delights!
