LUCY TOLMACH'S BIRTHDAY
Celebrated in Early February 2007
with
Jonathan Tolmach,
Amy, Jesper, Alanna and Dane

Jonathan brought some Tolmach beer to start our little Sunday fest.

We then opened a bottle of Ren Geoffroy's excellent Ros Champagne...


The young Lucy Tolmach...

We then sat down to feast on an Ensalada Mixta with a lovely Spanish white wine from Rueda, Buil & Gin's "Nosis."


A Saffron Cornbread accompanied the salad...

Next was a squid ink, black pasta with seafood.  The wine was a delicious bottle of Dorigo's 2005 Ribolla Gialla.

Prawns, Mussels and calamari, along with orange peppers...

Dane and Alanna had their own special table.
Dane is a little pasta eating "machine."

We needed to refresh our palates before the main plate, so a little Beaujolais sorbet did the trick.

We opened a couple of red wines...


1998 Chteau Saint Pierre from Saint Julien
and
2001 Roda I from Rioja

Amy was especially enthralled by the lamb.


Roasted Lamb, Season Potatoes, Braised Fennel and a tomato stuffed with flageolet beans.

The two red wines were excellent!
The 1998 Saint Pierre was approaching its peak, displaying a marvelous bottle bouquet dominated by leathery fragrances.  It has a modest amount of tannin and tasted, actually, rather smooth alongside the lamb.
Roda I featured nice cedary, woodsy fragrances with dark fruit notes.  It was also very showy and reasonably supple on the palate.


It was then time to bring out the birthday cake.

Lucy was thrilled to see but 5 candles on the birthday cake.
"I was afraid the fire alarm might go off if it had the right number on there." she said.


She then made a wish and got busy.

The cake was quite good...




So was the Killa Vanilla Ice Cream!

Then it was time to open some birthday presents.

Dane then surprised one and all with his new hair do!

It reminded everyone of his Mom's hair.

We then had some fresh strawberries...



Everyone departed shortly thereafter and I dragged myself to the airport to meet our good friend Luca Currado of the Vietti winery in Piemonte.
We then drove to San Francisco and had a sip and a bite.
