A SPRING SUNDAY FOR BRIAN
A Birthday Celebration for a 15 year old
Hosted by Jonathan & Lucy Tolmach
Lucy and Jonathan had a nice menu planned for
The centerpiece of the afternoon was a wonderfully smoked ham from Dittmer's
Wursthaus in Mountain View.
Jonathan baked some great breads...
There are several rows of asparagus out in the garden and they're in season
Yes, they were as delicious as they look!
We began the warm afternoon with some Tolmach Pilsner.
The oven was being fired up for today's festivities.
Jesper was checking out the latest bread.
Ellen enjoyed the asparagus.
Lucy and Jonathan made a mushroom tart and we opened a bottle of Wirsching's
It was a nice day weather-wise and we wondered how our friend Giulia Masi and
her family are doing in Tuscany.
I marinated some prawns in a soy, garlic, ginger mix and these were pan-roasted
in the oven...
These were appreciated by young and old alike.
The Tolmach's grew some greens and I prepared a salad dressing
using lemon, lemon oil, lemon zest, garlic, anchovies, cilantro and a bit of
vinegar...we topped the salads with a "snow fall" of fresh crab meat.
Hard to believe, but little guys like crab and salad greens!
We had a nice bottle of Boeckel Riesling...
Brian enjoyed the salad, too.
But Dane really worked to clean his plate!
Alanna took Uncle Gerald's hat for a while.
We opened a chilled bottle of Paul Mathew's Gamay Noir from Sonoma's Knights
On a lazy Sunday afternoon, the minds wanders...
The ham, meanwhile, was looking good.
Lissa K: Don't worry, it's a special Kosher ham.
The Colman's Mustard was wonderfully hot, hot, hot!!!
I think the kid needs a haircut...
Might as well enjoy it while you have it, though.
We then went on a stroll of the estate...
The swimming pool was a nice attraction for the kids.
But you have to be careful when going swimming that you don't
get bitten by a shark!
Brian swam out of the way...
Amy thought about going for a swim, but her busted flipper precluded that.
Alanna said it was cold in and out of the pool.
Lucy, Jonathan and Brian.
We then strolled back to the house...
That Uncle Gerald sure spoils us!
Now it was time for some birthday cake!
Jesper made a nice cake and even a chocolate birthday message!
