A LAZY SUNDAY LUNCH
Our friends Pierre & Aviva brought along their two
kids, Felix and Clementine as well as Aunt Amy.
Amy's family is busy in Denmark, so Alanna, Dane and Papa Jesper were unable to
We began with an assortment of nibbles...
I had brought a number of "taster" bottles, so the wines today were an
A Basserman-Jordan "trocken" Riesling from the 2005 was amazingly good
and everyone loved it with the oysters. I had been apprehensive, but the
wine was beautifully balanced and remarkably nice.
A 2004 Zind-Humbrecht Riesling which followed was seriously over-shadowed by the
German wine from the Rheinpfalz.
The phone rang and it was Jesper, calling from Denmark to tell us what a busy
day they had.
Clementine wanted to chat with Alanna, but the poor thing was so exhausted from
her SunDanish, she was already asleep.
Pierre and Aviva.
Amy seems to be enjoying the peace and tranquility of home life, what with The
Circus busy thousands of miles from Santa Clara.
After enjoying the vast array of nibbles, from a selection of fresh oysters,
sushi, pt and fromage, we prepared a little salad.
The vegetarian version.
And the Grilled Calamari version.
Then we had a little palate cleanser...
A Beaujolais sorbet.
Tomatoes with herbs and grilled...
Polenta Stars and homemade pesto.
Grilled lamb and grilled sausages...
Shrimp, Salmon and grilled zucchini.
Felix immediately got busy!
So did Clementine.
We enjoyed a 2004 Chassagne-Montrachet of Bernard Moreau. The wood takes
center stage and the wine is quite oaky. A Monchiero Carbone 2003
Roero (Nebbiolo) from Piemonte was better balanced and delightful with the lamb.
All the heavy lifting of lunch got the better
of Amy, who needed a nap.
A few moments later, Clementine was surprised by the presentation of a little
Some sort of do-it-yourself "flip
flop" sandals...So Clementine got busy and started decorating these.
Clementine's new sandals match her lovely Sunday ensemble...
Amy, meanwhile, was still exhausted from all her fork-lifting and elbow-bending exercises.
I decanted a small bottle of Dow's 1983 Vintage Porto to pair with the Chocolate
Storm Aviva was preparing...
Felix dives into the pool of chocolate...
Clementine was also busy working on some sandals for her
When Amy got up from her snooze, Pierre availed himself of the
opportunity of horizontality...
Clementine then adorned her Pop with some alligators...
"This will be funny when Daddy wakes up." she told us.
"Hello Alanna! I miss you. Let's plan on getting together as
soon as you return. I want to hear all about your adventure."
And so we concluded a nice day of vittles and vino!
