January 2008
Pierre & Aviva had carefully planned a little birthday "surprise"
for Amy. We had celebrated Amy's birthday the previous weekend and they
hoped she would not have an inkling about this weekend's little
"fest."
Unfortunately, Amy's little son Dane (The Squirt or, his Roman name, Squirticus)
told her "Mom, we're having a 'prize party." Her daughter, the
scholarly Alanna Rae then corrected her little brother, "Dane, it's not a
'prize' party, it's a surprise party! Oops....!"
So...

...now that the cat's out of the bag, let's proceed.

We arrived well ahead of the FitzJensen's 11:30 scheduled arrival time.
Jesper called saying they'd be a bit late...and we waited and waited and
waited.
Finally, around 12:30 they made their appearance.
Amy was parking the car and so everyone assumed a place to yell out
"Surprise!"

But Amy arrived through the back door and
SHE yelled out "Surprise!"

Clementine and Alanna.

Squirticus wearing his "Blame My Sister" shirt.
The buffet table was bursting at the seams with all sorts of vegetarian
delights...

Chelsea was delighted to be here...
And her Mom, Toni, was busy helping airplanes land at nearby San Jose
International judging by the hand signals...

Deirdre and Jesper, two Bon Appetiters...

Joe is explaining politics to Amy who's battling boredom to stay awake.
Mary Ann, however, seems to have lost that particular struggle.

Shortly afterwards, a trio of dancers arrived to entertain the birthday girl and
the rest of us...

BAHIRA is the ringleader (the lady on the right).

Bahira, Fara'Asha and Shiva...

The party animals were quite enchanted by the proceedings!

Soon the Birthday Girl was out of her chair and on the
dance floor...

Holy Smoke! And I mean smoke!

Talk about "busting a move"!!!
Then they summoned others to the dance floor...

Aviva got busy and added some zest to the proceedings...

Now Joe and Pierre got involved and things really
deteriorated...

Keep in mind, this was early in the party...Joe hadn't made his way through
an entire 6-pack when this happened...

Fara'Asha showed Jesper how to move his Asha...

And he did!
Soon his lovely daughter Alanna was out on the dance floor, showing us some
moves...

Next thing we know, there's Felix and his pop out on the
dance floor, showing off some of their hockey moves.

Not wanting to be left out, Chelsea and her Mom Toni got
out there and danced...

Even Georgette was out there shaking things up...

Pierre was so agile, he was able to dance with a glass of
wine...

Kevin was sliding dollar bills into the dancer's outfits...
This wasn't a problem until he wanted some change from a ten.

Pierre was attempting to give her a tip in Canadian dollars.

These two were shocked by the whole circus.
Once things started to settle down, Joe started whistling "Dixie,"
again.

Amy, meanwhile, was pigging out on the grand buffet of
vegetarian cuisine.

Toni was still sending signals to pilots attempting to land
at San Jose International...

Deirdre was one happy camper...

Amy then started singing, much to the surprise and delight
of Sabina.

Toni and Chelsea then joined Amy in song...

Finally it was time for some birthday cake...

Out of respect for the environment, Aviva only lit a fraction of the number of
candles normally required for such a birthday celebration.

Per was overjoyed at the prospect of chocolate cake, but Amy was even crazier
for the idea...

"Oh my gawd, Amy! I had no idea you were that old!"

"I don't care how old Amy is...I'm just glad someone was smart enough to
bring chocolate cake!"

"Birthday? We're celebrating someone's birthday?"

A red-headed cake-eating machine...

There's no time like the present...
The sun came out for a moment and then it began raining again...

Amy said the wet weather and cool temps reminded her of
Frankfurt...

Perfect timing! A bottle of Possman's Frankfurter Apple Wine!
(Amy's favorite)
Our host and hostess took a moment to catch their
breaths...

Mary Ann couldn't believe people actually drink this stuff...
...neither can Amy.

Sabina says "Kein problem!"
Deirdre was already asking for a second pour!

"Really...what is this stuff?"
Well, it was getting late and I had another wing-ding to attend, so I made my
way to the next fest...

Squirticus wanted to join his Uncle Gerald at the next party, but I told him
there were no belly dancers and less cake, so he decided to stay put...
Many thanks to Pierre, Aviva and the Troupe Nambah for such a lovely afternoon.
