Ellen invited a bunch of friends, family and
colleagues over for vittles and vino on a warm, summer Sunday afternoon in
August of 2009...
Stuffed Zucchini and Seafood Empanadas.
We enjoyed some bottles of Mont-Marcal Brut Rose, a Spanish cava made of the
unusual red grape "Trepat."
It was lovely on a hot day and the asparagus wrapped with prosciutto was a good
Roasted Corn salad, FitzJensen Tomatoes and Pesto Pasta.
Jesper whacked up some grilled salmon.
We grilled and then over-roasted some lamb, too.
Tomatoes were stuffed with Crab Meat seasoned with arugula,
celery and a touch of a homemade lemony salad dressing.
Lucy and Jonathan brought a terrific salad.
Dane and Alanna were busy with a video.
Alexia's mom, Ilene Gadler, laughed when we mentioned it was her birthday.
Unfortunately, she and Alexia disappeared before we could regale Ilene with a
rendition of "Happy Birthday."

I caught Jonathan with an empty glass...
Mark, Mister Connie Poon and Jesper.
Alexia is disappearing in the distance, with Alanna and her Mom in the

We opened a bunch of "taster" bottles I had
purchased...One of the most interesting was a white wine from the Carso
producer, Edi Kante.
Vitovska is a stony, minerally, dry white from a region just north of Trieste.
Also enjoyable was a 2007 Seguinot-Bordet Petite Chablis, nicely fruity and
We found the Gavi of La Scolca to be showing well...very fruity in the 2007
The 2007 Archery Summit entry level Pinot Noir was very
drinkable, strawberryish and beautifully balanced.
The Casanova di Neri 2004 Brunello was showing well, too.
Kareasa brought a stellar berry "cobbler" and
Jonathan & Lucy made a blackcurrant ice cream for dessert...
