After a day of Power Tasting in the Mosel with Wein-Meister
Jurgen Block, we returned to Rodgau for more essen und trinken with Gaby and
I didn't come here to say no.
As we sat outside, enjoying the lovely Spring evening, a
couple of jets flew overhead, checking out the festivities, apparently.
Here's what was on tonight's agenda:
There's a dynamite metzgerei in Rodgau, so we had sausages from Hiller.
Norbert brought out a couple of bottles of nice, light reds.
Heger's 2008 Pinot Noir was a real treat. The Erste+Neue St. Magdalener
was a nicely fruity little red, but overshadowed by the nobility of the Pinot
The German Potato Salad, also prepared by Hiller, was spectacular. I am
not much of a fan of potato salad, but Hiller's is amazingly good.
And someone found the last schlucks of Champagne to be heavenly.
I had a great day of visiting wineries in the Nahe region and
Gaby had done a bit of shopping...
A Crusius Riesling was fantastic with the prawns!
Then Gaby jumped back into the kitchen to prepare a risotto with salmon.
Neumeister's lovely Moarfeitl Sauvignon...a nice match for Gaby's Salmon
Claus and Anette were hosting a Bavarian lunch as a send-off for me prior to my
flight to Tuscany that afternoon, so Gaby & Norbert put on their Bavarian
duds to get into the theme of the afternoon.
We arrived at Schloss Bonifer and Claus immediately opened a nice bottle of
Raumland's Cuvee Katharina...sehr gut!
The Bonifer Babes!
Claus then got busy in the kitchen and the Rodgau Fire Department went on
Norbert was opening the bottle of Boxler Riesling we'd picked
up in Alsace and Gaby was praying that the damned thing was dry!
Then Claus served up his Leberknodel Soup.
That didn't take long!
The Boxler was a bit sweet, but still had nice character and
But some people opted for a bier...
Claus showed off his Messer Skills and did not lose a finger in the process!
Naturlich haben wir ein After Table!
Cascina Castle't Moscato with the Bavarian Cream and Berries!
Claus then shows off his skills with a "Switch
Spoon," a spoon encased in a spring-loaded, switch-blade-like device.
Auch du Lieber!!!
After dessert, we had had a look at Bonifer Gardens...
I was not sure precisely what was going on here...
And with that, it was time for a ride to the airport so I
could make tracks for Tuscany!
Many thanks to Gaby, Norbert, Claus and Anette for their generous hospitality!!!
