Food Wine & Friends Page 225

I arrived on a Sunday night and Anna was busy, as she often is, in the kitchen, preparing dinner for the Masi family...

Olive oil, black olives, cherry tomatoes...

Piero said he could serve pasta with his eyes closed...

...and he did!

Angela Masi

Next was the main course...a roast...

...braised greens....

...and peas.

I stopped at the little Enoteca and Gastronomia shop of Paolo Checcucci in Tavarnelle as he's got a good selection of Tuscan wines (not at tourist prices, either!) and a good deli counter.

Along with the prosciutto, I snagged some artichokes.

Back at the Masi house, we had a look at a nice little video...

FAVORITE YOUTUBE VIDEOS.

Giovanni Masi took care of pouring some vino bianco...

I think this cutting board has a lot of mileage...

Hartmann Dona 2009 Sauvignon Blanc...nice, but not grand.

Giulia and her Mom, la grande Cuoca Anna!

Piero worked on the fire...

Anna, meanwhile, was saucing some pasta.

And Giulia served...

Then Piero brought out his perfectly cooked Bistecca...

Angela then showed off her abilities to swirl wine....

We then had dessert(s)...a pan of baked fruits and some sort of fruit jam 'pizza'...

Olives, Funghi, Prosciutto and Salame...

Anna had purchased some fresh pasta...

Giulia is always happy when Mom's cooking and the wine is flowing.

I had purchased a bottle of Teruzzi & Puthod's Terre di Tufi and Giovanni offered to open some other bottles of their wines.  He'd, as it turns out, did some internship work at the winery and had some of their wines to share.

Carmen Puthod is a delightfully simple dry white made of Sangiovese!

A Vernaccia di San Gimignano was, frankly, less interesting.

Carcofini...Baby Artichokes...

And the main plate...

We had two Chianti from 2009...Vecchie Terre de Montefili and Renzo Marinai.
Both were good.
The Vecchie Terre was more traditionally styled, while the Renzo Marinai showed a bit of oak and a curious brown spice tone.

Angela went to look up the weather forecast for Paris.

AT ALBERGACCIO di CASTELLINA

Anna was ready t cook the pasta to go with her fantastic clam sauce.

To start, though...a 'salad' of Gambaretti with thinly shaven artichokes.

And some more "Carciofi Sott'Olio"

Such a simple pasta, yet so satisfying!!!

The main plate was "Moscardini,"

Moscardini are small octopuses...
Cooked with Spinach from the Masi Garden...

Nonna.

And a simple dessert.

TANTE GRAZIE A LA FAMIGLIA MASI!
