It's hard to believe, but Little Winifred Scout O'Tool is now one year old.

We hosted a little dinner party for her as Grandma Lois and Grandpa Ken were visiting from Wisconsin.

The whole crew arrived late Sunday afternoon, including Winnie's Big Brother.


We had a few simple "nibbles" to accompany the Eric Rodez Cuvée des Grands Vintages Champagne.


There were some sushi rolls with rice and avocado...Winnie immediately demolished those!

Now, the day before, Winnie's parents organized a big birthday bash out in Pacifica.
Winnie sent us a text after those festivities were done.


We toasted Winnie's birthday and she enjoyed some water from her Sippee Cup.

As we were sipping on the Champagne, Winnie's Aunt Ellen called from the East Coast to wish Winnie a Happy Birthday.  Also helping was Winnie's Cousin Logan.

Winnie was enthralled by this bit of High-Tech attention.


"What about me?" Chewie asked.

When Ellen asked "Who's hosting this party?", Winnie immediately responded.




Winnie wanted more food...

This guy wanted something to eat, also.

It was time to take a seat at the table and Winnie was delighted by this.


The 2015 Pojer e Sandri Müller-Thurgau was excellent and a good match for the Crab & Avocado Salad.  The wine is mildly herbal, along the lines of a good Sauvignon Blanc.  It's light and dry, with crisp acidity and plenty of flavor.


I wasn't the only one having a second pour of the wine!


Winnie said she's like a second pour of the wine, too, but said "Heck, they didn't even give me a first pour!"

In the kitchen we were getting the next course ready...

Parchment Paper packages of Patagonian Toothfish...


These spent about 15 minutes in the oven..


The fish was seasoned with homemade, cheese-free Pesto and adorned with Red, Green and Hatch Peppers and some Cherry Tomatoes.
It was quite aromatic and paired well with Cantina Tramin's white blend called Stoan.
The 2015 is showing beautifully...the Sauvignon Blanc component seems to shine in this blend alongside Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco and Traminer.

Winnie enjoyed this dish.

Next was a palate-cleansing sorbet.


Pink Grapefruit...very aromatic and nicely refreshing.


Winnie applauded the Sorbet...

Chewie is not a fan of Sorbets...

"Wake me when the meat is on the table."

And the lamb was making its way to the table...

We had a couple of 2013 Syrahs from the Northern Rhône.

Jean-Michel Gerin 2013 Côte Rôtie "Les Grandes Places" showed a bit of a funky note at the start, but eventually this gamey quality seemed to blow off.  The wine showed some dark fruit and a bit of oak.  It may become a really showy wine with five to ten years more bottling aging.

The E. Guigal Saint-Joseph Vignes de l'Hospice was outstanding.  Clean red fruit notes are enhanced by a sweet, cedary, woodsy tone.  It's already quite drinkable .  Delicious!

 


Chewie was ready for a morsel of lamb.

Winnie was having a lot of fun (and food--there were wagers abut how much she would weigh when they returned home)...

 


Winnie has numerous toys which have buttons to push to start music and lights...so she was curious to push some buttons on the cake to see what might happen.


Which button should I push, Uncle G ???

 

 


Oh that cake is delicious!  One of the best birthday cakes I've ever tasted, too!!!

 

What's a birthday party without some gifts???

And there was a second birthday present...


Rubber Duckies!


Winnie said she can see just fine without glasses.



And with that, the evening reached its conclusion.
It was past my bedtime and Winnie's, too!
