Dinner After a Tasting of Pessac-Leognan White Wines
Hosted By Marjorie Martin
We began with an array of sushi from Burlingame's "Aja Yoshi Ya,"
which is owned by a fellow who has a black belt in sushi-making.
Two curious Champagnes were served with the sushi:
Ernest Rapeneau NV Brut
& Chateau de Bligny NV Brut
Both are made by the G.H. Martel, which is owned by the Rapeneau family.
We preferred the Rapeneau label, that bottle being more recently disgorged and
showing a bit more life and finesse.
Bob really enjoyed the Spider Roll (made of soft-shell crab).
My Crab Cakes were more like Crab Cake Hash. Paired with two wines from
Chateau Camou's Flor de Guadalupe white wine and Monte Xanic's fresher, brighter
blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Smillon.
We had a couple of 1996 Graves wines with the duck, toasted couscous, beets and
turnips, but the Flor de Pingus 1999 from Spain was exceptional!
Dessert featured Chteau Tirecul's Monbazillac and a fruit tart.
