A LAZY SUNDAY AFTERNOON IN WOODSIDE
July 21, 2002
JONATHAN USUALLY WRITES OUT THE "PROGRAM"....
I brought some curious bottles of wine. We began with Tolmach Pilsner to
go with the first breads out of the oven, though.
Then we tasted an odd wine from some winery in Tennessee and promptly poured
that out in favor of a rather modest Italian white from Campania.
Things got more "serious" with a wonderful German Auslese Trocken
Riesling, a bottle of Eitelsbacher Karthuserhofberg from 1994.
Meanwhile, the Kitchen Korps was busy preparing some vittles.
Lucy prepared her famous "Holy Moly, It's Guacamole!!"
Visiting Celebrity, the Famous Giulia Masi from Tuscany, was busy preparing the
home-grown potatoes. After cutting the potatoes, we made a count of her
fingers and, to her credit, she still had all 10!
Jonathan dug some 500 pounds of potatoes knowing Jesper Jensen and his Mom,
Herdis Jensen, were coming for lunch.
Meanwhile, Sierra Tolmach said "Let me know when people are going to start
dropping food under the table..."
Jonathan had the first of four pizzas ready to go into his
patent-pending wood-fired "microwave" oven.

A pizza cooks in this oven in a matter of minutes. Jonathan baked four of
them for "appetizers."
Heitz 2001 Grignolino Ros was delicious with the pizza!
A little Pizza Eater Has a Big Appetite for Pizza.
Jonathan the roasted a leg of lamb and paired it with fresh green beans,
Lucy's Garbanzos and potatoes. We had some nice red wines.
The Le Macchiole red was nice, showing notes of cocoa (a bit unusual for
Sangiovese), while the 1996 Domaine du Colombier Crozes-Hermitage, Cuve Gaby,
displayed lots of cassis-like fruit and spice notes.
Jonathan & Lucy finally get a moment to sit down and enjoy!
Jesper's Mom, Herdis Jensen, is visiting from Denmark. She toasted the
crew with a big "Skoal!"
Little Dane Fitz-Jensen said he especially liked the pizza.

Berries were collected from the local berry patch in the backyard.
Jonathan was busy whipping up a Chocolate Souffl.

Giulia, taking a liking to all the delicious kitchen artistry here in
California, is thinking of running away from her Tuscan home!
Alanna, meanwhile, wanted the group to have a stroll through the Filoli gardens,
so we finished dessert and went for an afternoon walk.
What a nice day!!!!
