Norbert was given a number of gifts depicting Edward
Munch's famous "The Scream".
Breakfast

Breakfast bei Auth is also a scream!
Norbert & I went wine-tasting in the Hessiche Bergstrasse, a
relatively unheralded wine region south of Darmstadt.

Off we went to the village of Zwingenberg and the winery of Simon-Bürkle.
Norbert had
read some good reviews of their wines.
I liked their 1999 Kerner Spätlese, a dry Chardonnay, a St. Laurent and a Spätburgunder.

We then headed to the Staatsweingut Bergstrasse
which is a government operated winery.

In the afternoon, besides trying to not fall asleep in the wake of jet-lag, I
visited the new digs of Mr. & Mrs. Daniela Bauer.

Mr. & Mrs. Daniela.
In the early evening we began an incredible "Abendessen" Fest with the
Rodgau Wine-Tasting Team.

A magnum of Ferrari Spumante was delicious!

Gaby prepared some Crostini and other nibbles to go with the bubbly.

GABY.

Gaby prepared a fabulous "Asian-styled" noodles with cured
salmon. This was paired with a Chardonnay of Weingut Bernhard Huber (an 18
hectare estate in the Baden region) and Guigal's Condrieu.

Claus Bonifer shows off his armpit and wine.

This plate was met with much enthusiasm.

Norbert was busy in the kitchen....

Claus told us of their latest trip to Italy and how they plan to come to
California, "hopefully before Anette qualifies for a senior citizen's
discount on the bus."

Meanwhile, the sauce was being prepared for the pasta.
