Having been impressed by a wonderful white wine made by this estate, I decided I might go visit them to see for myself.

The Sportoletti brothers started in 1979, producing some 2000 bottles of wine that vintage.

They currently own about 20 hectares of vineyards, scattered amongst four vineyard sites.


There are some small chapels dotting the hillsides behind the winery.

The Sportoletti family is a major proponent of organic farming practices, by the way.


Grechetto is a wonderful grape from Umbria and Sportoletti seems to be the leading producer (to our taste, at this point).
It makes a lovely white wine.  Sportoletti's see a bit of time in wood, contributing a modern styling to the wine, but not overshadowing its unique character.


The cellar we saw was functional and clean.  But we understood they will be constructing a new facility in the near future.
