ANTICA TORRE in BARBARESCO 2012 DINNER

Notes by
Gerald Weisl,
wine merchant

The crew was enthralled with my Piemontese book...as they were
all featured in it!

Aldo Vacca and Mister Tajarin, Chef Maurizio.

They were busy in the kitchen, of course. Not only were we having the
annual Nebbiolo Prima Tajarin and Agnello Marathon, there was another event
called "Barbaresco a Tavola" taking place the same night!

1974 Barbaresco on the left...1995 Montestefano Barbaresco on the right.
For me, the 1974 was the most perfectly developed wine of the week.
(( Thanks, Aldo, for sharing!!! ))

The 2006 Nebbiolo from Pietro Ratti was showing marvelously...good vintage and
good wine.

Carne Cruda at Antica Torre is always good.

As you can see, we had our work cut out for us!

Ranato's 2003 Barbaresco was showing handsomely...still
youthful!

Pietro's 2003 Rocche was young, as well...it is just starting to blossom.

Even this boisterous crowd grows quiet at this stage...

From a different angle...2002 Barbaresco.

It might not be a Hall of Fame vintage, but despite the reports of 2002 being a
disaster, a number of producers actually made some nice wines.

"Damn! Seconds!!"

Don't mind if I do!
Maurizio roasts the Agnello Sambucano for about 7 hours...

Dr. Maurizio performs a lot of surgery...

2006 Albino Rocca Barbaresco Riserva...Vigneto Brich Ronchi.

Yes...some bottles of wine from the Veneto...Le Fraghe!

1974. Stellar.

Many thanks to this guy for organizing this fantabulous event!

Aldo Vacca.

Everyone wanted to have their picture taken with Aldo...

Just about this time there was a fantastic perfume enveloping
the remaining crowd...and it was coming from the kitchen.

I snooped around the dining room and found many a Barbaresco a
Tavola!

And then look who arrived at the party!

Jack Vacc!
Giacomo Vacca...who always seems to celebrate his birthday at the same time each
year!

The Witching Hour in Barbaresco...

Ca' D'Gal Moscato...Mighty refreshing!

And the streets of Barbaresco were quiet...

BARBARESCO at MIDNIGHT.

BARBARESCO EVEN LATER.
